The Alibi Cape Town: Premium Private Cannabis Club on Bree Street
The Alibi offers locals arguably the best premium private members’ cannabis club experience in the Mother City. Also, its prime location is in the heart of Cape Town City Centre.
Established in 2019, the club began as a “dagga speakeasy”. It was the kind of place members spoke about in hushed tones. Since then, it has grown into one of the city’s most polished private cannabis spaces.
The Alibi describes itself as Africa’s first premium private members’ cannabis club. With that comes a clear focus on quality, discretion, service, and atmosphere.
Members can expect a carefully designed space. This includes lounge and workspace areas, dedicated meeting rooms, and a curated selection of cannabis products. There is also a bistro-style menu and slow-brewed coffee that holds its own against the Mother City’s best.
At its core, The Alibi is more than a place to access premium products. It is a private club where Cape Town’s cannabis connoisseurs can connect, unwind, work, meet, and network.
Membership at The Alibi
As you might have assumed, access to The Alibi is available only through becoming a member.
Membership options include a monthly fee of R250, R650 for three months, or R1,500 per year.
The membership fee gives you access to the club and its amenities, as well as entry to Nirvana Club in Cape Town and HQ Members’ Club in Johannesburg.
Applicants must be 21 or older and present valid identification on their first visit. The membership application form also asks applicants to provide the name of the member who invited them.
The Venue
We’d honestly say that the Alibi’s venue is one of its strongest features.
Rather than operating as a simple stop-in location, the club is designed as a multi-level members’ space where visitors can eat, relax, work, socialise, and spend time in a cannabis-curated environment.
When selecting the venue and choosing its decor, the dream was to design a private club that challenged the stereotype of regular private members’ cannabis clubs, offering members a higher-end cannabis club experience. Where cannabis and a bistro-inspired menu could co-exist. Now, more about the food.
Food and Coffee
As we’ve mentioned, the Alibi offers a bistro-style food menu and slow-brewed coffee.
This isn’t just your regular canteen food option. Members can dig into buttermilk-fried chicken burger, gourmet hot dogs, Mediterranean bowl, milkshake, all-day breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, treats, and other club dishes.
When you combine great cannabis and food, it elevates the Alibi beyond just a private cannabis club.
Events and Club Atmosphere
As you’d expect, the Alibi hosts events and special occasions throughout the year. These events include movie nights, First Thursdays, tastings, and other club happenings.
Their website has a dedicated events page, which is updated regularly, along with their social media channels. However, the Alibi staff encourage members to follow its socials for updates.
The overall atmosphere is built around community, comfort, and a premium members’ club setting. It is designed for people who want a private, social, and more elevated cannabis club experience in Cape Town.
